Frequently Asked Questions

What impact will this legislation have?
  • Legislation will update the definition of the practice of Registered Interior Design to reflect more specificity and clarity in the scope of practice.

  • Legislation will provide Registered Interior Designers with a seal and the ability to independently stamp and seal interior non-structural construction plans for permitting within the defined scope of practice and provides clarity on how and when an RID stamp can be used.

  • Legislation will provide an exemption for kitchen and bath designers from the registration requirements.

What scope of work is limited by the bill?
  • The scope of work outlined in interior design legislation is limited to non-structural and non-loadbearing interior design elements for which NCIDQ-certified interior designers have an abundance of skill and competence to independently design.

Does this bill offer a heightened level to health, safety, and welfare?
  • YES. The practice of registered interior design has a documented and confirmed impact on public health, safety,
and welfare. Allowing qualified practitioners that have met the education, experience, and examination requirements to practice independently with state oversight provides accountability for professionals through
enforcement and discipline and protects consumers by ensuring qualified professionals are working competently within their scope of practice. HEIGHTENED ACCOUNTABILITY MAKES US ALL BETTER.
